OMAVIR Training Day

Application of omic science to antiviral research

OMAVIR Training Day

Cagliari, 23 September 2026 – The “OMAVIR” training day, organized by the University of Cagliari in conjunction with the INF-ACT Foundation and Sardegna Ricerche, and held in conjunction with the 8th IAAASS (Innovative Approaches for the Identification of Antiviral Antigens Summer School), is the first event of the ACT4TRAIN project, funded under the PN RIC 2021/27. More than 60 participants from different continents have registered, all interested in advanced training opportunities in virology, diagnostics and omics sciences.

Nicole Grandi (University of Cagliari and ACT4TRAIN WP Leader): “Through lectures delivered by international experts from both the public and private sectors, OMAVIR offers a training and professional development programme on the potential of omics sciences applied to antiviral research, from experimental design and the conduct of experiments through to data collection, analysis and bioinformatic interpretation.”

The OMAVIR training day is the first opportunity to present the ACT4TRAIN ACADEMY (https://www.inf-act.it/progetti/act4train-academy/), an advanced, modular and flexible training programme aimed primarily at young researchers, graduates and healthcare-sector professionals working in SMEs located in the regions of Southern Italy. The programme is expected to launch at the beginning of 2027.

Federica Zacchini (ACT4TRAIN Coordinator): “The ACT4TRAIN project was conceived with the awareness that training and professional development are key factors in strengthening the competitiveness and innovation of strategic value chains in the regions of Southern Italy and, consequently, in reducing the territorial divide. This event takes place just a few days after the ACT4 project kick-off meeting and represents the first concrete training programme envisaged as part of the activities funded through the MUR’s PN RIC 2021–2027 and coordinated by the INF-ACT Foundation. To maintain a high level of quality, the content offered will be updated and adapted annually, in line with scientific and technological advances and the needs of businesses, while the teaching staff will consist of experts from both public and private organizations. The ultimate goal is to provide participants with training that is always up to date, targeted and consistent with the needs of the sector.”
