AH INF-ACT Mid-career awards
The INF-ACT Foundation and the Armenise Harvard Foundation share a common goal: to support mid-career researchers in this area of critical need. to support mid-career researchers engaged in basic research—a group of scientists that currently receives insufficient funding. Through the Mid-Career Awards, the two foundations aim to set a new trend and encourage other foundations—as well as institutional, private, and public donors—to support research during this critical stage of a researcher's career.
The AH INF-ACT Mid-Career Awards aim to fund basic and translational research projects addressing unmet needs related to emerging infectious diseases in one of the following areas:
- Emerging and re-emerging viral diseases (with a particular focus on respiratory viruses and zoonotic viruses);
- Arthropod vectors and vector-borne pathogens (with a particular focus on vector-borne diseases and vectors associated with a higher risk of expansion or emergence in Italy, such as arboviruses);
- Diseases caused by multi-drug resistant bacteria and fungi (AMR, with a particular focus on the molecular mechanisms of multi-drug resistance or MDR);
- Integrated "One Health" epidemiology (human, animal, and human-animal interaction), surveillance, and mathematical modeling;
- Development of new therapeutic strategies (identification of molecular targets, generation of small-molecule libraries for drug discovery, testing of "lead" compounds, and their optimization).
